Types Of Tub Chairs

Tub chairs are not new The French Kings used to parade their luxurious by sitting on tub chairs and forbidding anyone else to do the same. The English also took to tub chairs later on in the 17th century and also brought them into the courts of the king. Tub chairs were also made popular by the many furniture manufacturers who saw them as a great source of income for the general public. This was during the advent of the industrial revolution when the general public began to appreciate and have the purchasing power of to indulge in luxuries.

Tub chairs are ideal for people who prefer to sit for extended periods of time either because they are reading or relaxing or have back ailments. Many seniors fall under this category. Their extended curvy arm rests make them popular among many. As exotic furniture designers join in the manufacturer of tub chairs, the designs begin to vary. This draws more of the younger generation who want to add tub chairs to their living room furniture. Once associated only with the older generation, tub chairs are quickly being adapted by younger people.

When it comes to tub chairs, the basic elements of are  the legs, seats and armrests which are more curvy than regular arm chairs. Tub chairs are sort of a variation of the regular armchairs only with more curvy armrests which may extend all the way to the bottom.  Tub chairs are usually cushioned with foam or cotton, and are extremely comfortable to recline on especially if you are intending to spend a long time on the seat. The reason these chairs are called tub chairs is because in a way, they resemble a bath tub in the way that the arm rest is raise for more comfort to where when someone is seating on a tub chair, it is as if they are inside the tub minus the water.

You can buy tub chairs as a single items but some designers have began to bundle arm chairs with similarly colored stools used for leg rest. This makes them a set. Most designers sell them as such and will decline to sell each item individually. If this is the case and you are low on funds, then the best way is to buy the singles set on E Bay or a government auction.

The regular tub chair was inspired by “Art Deco” which is a design popularized by one Josef Hoffman of the Vienna arts and crafts. Hoffman was actually an architect who veered into furniture design and liked it. He popularized a design so compact that people are constantly surprised its comfort and versatility. This chair functions well as a head chair at a dining room  and is comfortable as a sitting chair, or even a reclining chair.

Then there is the popular Kohler Club tub chair designed by the world-famous designer Mela Kohler who attempted to take the tub chair design to a whole new level. Its design is flexible meaning it  looks incredibly comfortable and blends well various other furnituture styles.
